District 6: Speculative Futures Community House 2024
Ceramics / Concept urban design / Illustration
District 6 is a collaborative, conceptual and speculative urban design project. For the brief we were directed to create an aspect for a fictional future community, Heterachia, based upon existing principles, including resident cohabitation, animal equality and the non-destructive use of natural resources.
Focusing on architectural, urban and structural design, we produced our vision for buildings in the future and how they interacted with each other in the community. My task in the group was to design a communal dwelling, in addition to illustrating the floorplans of each structure for our presentation.
In essence, the dwelling, like the project’s other structures, is designed to use sustainable materials such as mycelium and bioplastic throughout its construction. The house’s roof, inspired by leaves channelling water, collects rainfall into community aqueducts for recycling. Every aspect of the building’s design focuses on how to utilise natural functions and resources to replace the need for man-made machines.
Furthering the project, we decided to learn ceramics, a new skill to me, and replicate our organic building designs in three dimensions, for better visualisation and understanding of our Heterachia concept.
