Ceramics  /  Conceptual urban design  /  Illustration / Speculative design
District 6 is a collaborative, conceptual and speculative urban design project. The brief challenged us to envision an aspect of a fictional future community, Heterachia, grounded in principles, including resident cohabitation, animal equality and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Focusing on architectural and structural design, we designed future-thinking buildings and explored how their materials and systems, such as rainwater fuelled farming and energy production,  interacted with the broader community. My role in this project involved in prototyping a communal house, in addition to illustrating floor plans for each structure.
In essence, the prototype house, like District 6's other structures, is designed to use sustainable materials such as mycelium and bioplastics. The design draws inspiration from leaf curling spiders and the roof collects rainfall into community aqueducts for recycling, influenced by the way leaves channel water. Every aspect of the building focuses on how to utilise natural functions and resources to replace the need for man-made machines.
Enhancing our understanding of District 6, we translated our organic designs in 3D,  learning ceramics, a new skill for me.
